Rebecca

From age six through eighteen, I received my early training in piano studying with Jeanne Pennino. In high school, I also studied music with Dr. Carl Hammond while attending Coronado School of the Arts, where we had classes that prepared students to be music majors such as music theory, history, music notation and recording technology. Later in college, I continued my musical education journey studying with Dr. J. Mitzi Kolar, Krzysztof Brzuza, and Dr. Karen Follingstad. I earned my Bachelor of Music degree in Piano, Professional Studies from San Diego State University.

I specialize in classical music and also enjoy teaching pop, Broadway, jazz, and sacred styles. I am an extremely patient teacher with experience utilizing a variety of curricula since every lesson is tailored specifically to each student.

Besides keeping busy teaching piano and flute and practicing my own repertoire, I love to sing in the choir at Shadow Mountain Community Church. I also enjoy cooking, always looking for new healthy and tasty recipes to try. Being outdoors and enjoying God's beautiful creation is another favorite pastime!

I started playing piano and cello at age six while living in Oxford, England and later picked up my first guitar in Copenhagen, Denmark at sixteen. I earned my Associate's Degrees in Music and Liberal Arts from Santa Barbara City College. Throughout my education, in addition to practicing various instruments, I have participated in choirs, jazz bands, and combos playing guitar. I have also taken courses in recording technology under Dominic Camardella of Santa Barbara Sound Design. My education continued at San Diego State University where I earned my Bachelor of Music degree in Piano, Professional Studies under the auspices of Dr. Karen Follingstad.

I have been teaching music since 2007, with experience tutoring aural skills and music theory, and instructing piano and acoustic, electric, and bass guitar lessons. In addition to teaching, I also serve professionally as the staff musician, singing and playing piano and guitar, at Christ the King Anglican Church in Poway, as a periodic guest musician at Kaleo Church in El Cajon, and have sung a cappella with Full Measure Carolers during holiday seasons.

In my spare time, I enjoy writing and recording my own tunes, gaming with a cat on my lap, and travel.
